2023 Subaru Solterra vs. Toyota bZ4X: Performance Features

Although the electric SUVs are built on the same platform, there are some differences between the 2023 Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X to note. They target slightly different markets. The Toyota is a commuter vehicle, and the Solterra can commute and excels off-road. While the Toyota can come with an AWD upgrade, the Subaru comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. This is a unique system patented by the brand that perfects torque distribution with a whole original design for maximized efficiency and responsiveness.

What's more, the Subaru can come with X-Mode. This is a drive mode system, and although many vehicles feature drive mode systems, X-Mode is famously the most nuanced among the bunch. Considering that Subaru vehicles have long straddled the line between off-road and commuter segments, you'll find modes for maximizing fuel economy on the highway, alongside modes that perfect handling for mud pits and scaling rocky terrain.

The Solterra also features a superior 8.3-inch ground clearance for improved water fording and clearing uneven terrain. The Subaru is still a Subaru, and while it bears resemblance to the Toyota in so many ways, its versatility remains unmatched.

2023 Subaru Solterra vs. Toyota bZ4X: Dimensions

If you're choosing between the Subaru Solterra or Toyota bZ4X based on size, you'll need to hold tight as dimensions have yet to be released for the Toyota. We do know how big the Subaru Solterra is, however. Expect 126 cubic feet of passenger space, and 30 cubic feet more cargo space than the Kia Niro (another competitor). You can also expect a rear power gate with a 41-inch wide opening, meaning that getting large objects into cargo bay is a cinch! Stay tuned for more specs as they're released.
